Ford EcoSport vs Maruti Vitara Brezza: What to expect

Maruti has unveiled the Vitara Brezza sub-4 meter SUV at the 2016 Auto Expo, and this very vehicle will be launched in India within a matter of weeks from now. A monocoque bodied vehicle, the Vitara Brezza will directly take on the EcoSport. Here’s what you can expect from the battle.

Looks

Ford Ecosport
Despite being 3 years old, the Ford Ecosport is a contemporary looking crossover. While the Vitara Brezza looks fresh and will be widely accepted by the masses due to the Maruti badge on the bonnet, it’s not quite the looker that it could/should’ve been considering how butch a design the XA-Alpha (the concept version of the Vitara Brezza) was.
Maruti Vitara Brezza
Yet, the Vitara Brezza’s conservative design is likely to appeal to a wide swathe of buyers. It’s newer too, which should give it the advantage of the “novelty” factor for a few more months at least. So, as far as looks go, it’s even-stevens.

Dimensions

You don’t really expect to hustle a Scorpio or a Safari with an Ecosport or a Vitara Brezza, do you? With compact SUVs, it’s more of how many speed breakers and ill-designed parking ramps you can scale without scraping your underbody rather than going rock crawling.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza 3
Both SUVs offer adequate ground clearance, with the Ecosport leading the show with 200 mm, while the Vitara Brezza is almost there with 189 mm. In terms of compactness, the Ecosport is longer (3,999 mm vs 3,995 mm), taller (1,708 mm vs 1,640 mm) and narrower (1,765 mm vs 1,790 mm), and with a slightly longer wheelbase (2,520 mm vs 2,500 mm).
Ford Ecosport Profile
In terms of street presence, the Ecosport will edge out the Vitara Brezza but the latter will be easier to squeeze in tight parking spaces, especially in length terms as you don’t need to bother with the spare wheel jutting out. The downside to having the wheel inside the vehicle is a marginally smaller boot (328 liters) in the Vitara, compared to the 346 liter boot on the Ecosport.

Engines

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza 17
Maruti’s being very bold here. The Vitara Brezza is diesel only, with the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine (89 Bhp-200 Nm) powering it. Head to head, the Ford Ecosport Diesel is more powerful, with the 1.5 liter TDCI unit putting out 98.6 Bhp and 205 Nm. Both compact SUVs use 5 speed manual gearboxes to drive the front wheels.
Ford EcoSport Storm
If you want a petrol version, it’s no contest. The Ecosport is clearly the winner here, with not one but two petrol engines on offer. One motor displaces 1.5 liters and puts out 108 Bhp-140 Nm, while the turbo petrol EcoBoost engine displaces one liter and makes 125 Bhp-170 Nm.
It must be noted that most compact SUVs sold in India are diesel powered. So, Maruti may be keeping this in mind while taking a petrol-only approach on the Vitara Brezza.

Features

Maruti has packed the Vitara Brezza with a lot of stuff. A driver airbag is standard, and ABS+EBD and a passenger airbag can be added as an option on the base and mid trims. In contrast, the Ecosport’s base (Ambiente) diesel variant is quite stripped down. No ABS nor Airbags on this one.

Badge value

If you want the best resale value for your car, you simply buy a Maruti Suzuki. It’s an open and shut case here.

Sales and After sales

Here again, Maruti simply obliterates Ford. The number of dealerships that Maruti has across India is unparalleled, and the Vitara Brezza will not be sold through the NEXA chain. Maruti also has the country’s best after sales service, which makes or breaks the ownership experience of an automobile. While Ford’s after sales service and maintenance costs are now very competitive, it’ll still be a while before the Blue Oval manages to outdo Maruti on the sales and after sales fronts.

Pricing

98 % is the localization level of the Vitara Brezza. Lots of parts in the car are common with the likes of the Swift, Dzire and Ertiga. Also, prices of the S-Cross (a crossover much larger than the Brezza), now start at  7.79 lakh rupees. In other words, Maruti has a chance to price the Vitara Brezza very, very competitively. To pull a fast one on the Ecosport, the Vitara Brezza’s pricing may undercut the Ford offering. How about a 6.99 lakh rupee price tag, Maruti? The Ecosport’s diesel variants start at 8.19 lakh rupees, and those of the TUV300 at 7.11 rupees.

2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang Review

Monterey, California -- This is not just another Mustang. It is not some candy-colored, muscle-bound, consumer-grade arcade game for the young and dumb. It is up to something entirely different. The 2016 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350 is the Mustang reinvented.
From the moment in 1964 when the cover came off the Mustang, Ford has always wanted this car to become more like America’s sports car, less like America’s ride to the golf course. Yet decades of good intentions always have yielded to the understandable obligation to make a profit, and so the Mustang has always been undone by the limited performance that could be delivered at an affordable price. But now the 2016 Shelby GT350 finally delivers, no excuses. It’s a sports car, not a sports coupe. And even better, it’s affordable, too.
2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang Rear Three Quarters In Motion

Enzo, there is troubling news from Detroit

In 1965 Ford commissioned Carroll Shelby to create the GT350 for road racing competition, and this car still has such a hold on the imagination 50 years later that there were no fewer than 40 examples speeding up the straightaway here at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca just two weeks ago during the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, most of them twisting their decidedly non-stock 4.7-liter V-8s to a frightening 7,000 rpm.
2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang Interior
We’re pretty sure that the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang would have had the measure of any of them. This occurs to us because we’re on the track right now, and the head-up display of the shift lights reflected in the windshield are already blinking furiously in third gear just before we climb the hill to high-speed Turn 1, which means we’ve got another gear to use before Turn 2 looms ahead. These would be the shift lights that call for your attention to the approaching redline, which would be 8,250 rpm. As Carroll Shelby would say, you can’t get anywhere without bending the rules a little, and the GT350’s V-8 pushes the limits of practical physics, not to mention the bounds of propriety.
2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang Wheels
At first, the Ford engineers went down the usual path to more power from the familiar Coyote V-8, increasing the piston bore to 94.0 mm, installing bigger valves and then making the cams lift them open some 15 mm (yikes!). But then the engineers went all the way and created a racing-style flat-plane crankshaft, which not only quickens throttle response but also the helps the engine breathe better at extreme high rpm, creating more power. Ferrari adopted this technology for its 4.3-liter V-8 in the Ferrari California, but even Italian engineers shudder at the thought of such a thing in a 5.2-liter V-84, in which vibration caused by the flat-plane crank could rip apart the larger, heavier components.
2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang Rear End
Of course, all we care about is way the earth shudders as the Mustang GT350R passes by. Instead of the Ferrari-style scream that you might expect, the new Voodoo V-8 has a powerfully percussive roar. As the rpm climb to the torque peak of 429 lb-ft @ 4,750 rpm, the engine seems to smooth out and yet become even meaner and more insistent, and then you ride a broad plateau of torque to the power peak of 526 hp @ 7,500 rpm. The creamy throttle response over nearly 3,000 rpm helps you drive the Shelby GT350 like a hero in long-duration corners at Laguna Seca, hustling the car just a fraction to help it zing down the following straightway.

Maintaining an even strain on California Highway 1

Of course, we weren’t conscious of any potential threat to propriety when we first saw the 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang waiting for us in the paddock at Mazda Raceway. Once you get past the way the different colors in the GT350 palette shout at you, you appreciate the way the car itself appears to be re-sculpted, even though the shape remains familiarly Mustang. Every little bit of the bodywork seems to have a job to do, notably so on the track-ready Shelby GT350R with its front aero splitter, prominent rear wing, and a clever rear aero diffuser that accommodates a special venturi to improve the efficiency of the special cooler for the limited-slip differential.
2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang In Red Front View On Bridge
Even without direct-injection, the Voodoo V-8 with its tall 12.0:1 compression ratio V-8 fires up quickly and idles happily, apparently because the massive throttle body is carefully tapered to flow smoothly even at low rpm. Choosing a gear and setting off holds no terror because this six-speed Tremec manual transmission has a smoother, light-effort shift action than before, while the clutch requires so little effort that the pedal practically falls to the floor of its own accord. (At the same time, the engagement point is no longer detectable, and we’re not sure this is a good thing.) As we drove over Laureles Grade and into the wild outside the racetrack, we selected Sport among the five choices in calibration for the MagneRide dampers. The car rides well despite its low-profile tires, and once we switched to Normal for the drive down Carmel Valley Road, the chassis grew calmer (less fore-and-aft pitch) even as it remained alert and eager.
2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang In Red Side Motion View On Track
The Shelby GT350 is a pretty nice ride for sightseeing purposes, as we discovered on California Highway 1. The Mustang itself already has a taller greenhouse and a wider field of view that such cars as the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger (much less the Ferrari California T and Jaguar F-Type). Meanwhile, the GT350’s specially configured Recaro seats comfortably hold your midsection rather than annoyingly confine your shoulders. We were in a totally relaxed frame of mind all the way to Big Sur, except for a few moments when our driving companion demonstrated that the GT350 does indeed have the dragstrip credentials that its line-lock electronics promise, when he put down about 100 feet of rubber with an old-fashioned dragstrip getaway.
Indeed, our drive along the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean might have been done in a conventional Mustang. We didn’t note any unpleasant vibration from the V-8, something that such flat-crank engines are noted for. Still, it was clear that the GT350’s gearing is a little shorter than a conventional Mustang, partly due to the final-drive ratio of 3.73:1 and partly due to the six-speed transmission itself, which is like a close-ratio five-speed (fifth gear is 1.00:1) with an overdrive sixth. Also the GT350’s wide front tires nibble a bit at pavement imperfections parallel to your direction of travel, while the steering feel is a little heavy immediately off-center.

At the end of the day, everyone wants a track car

It’s hard to say what it is about a track car that engages the interest of everyone you meet. Of course not everyone drives such cars on the track, and yet the idea of a car dedicated to speed never fails to be intriguing. Because the $47,795 Shelby GT350 is notably more affordable than the $61,295 Shelby GT350R, some might think that it’s not really track-ready, and really is better suited to the kind of thrills you get from the $7,500 option package with its premium audio system and assorted electronic stuff plus racey hardware rather than the optional $6,500 Track Package that does without the electronics.
But we weren’t noticing any compromises in the GT350’s setup as we blistered up the straightway and under the pedestrian bridge at Laguna Seca. The Voodoo V-8 gives you its all, and the Tremec six-speed still has that reassuring bolt-action feel to its shift linkage, only now the shifts come quicker thanks to lighter effort. And when the car dove downhill into the Turn 2 hairpin, we stepped deep into the brake pedal and the racing-style, two-piece iron rotors did their stuff, thanks to six-piston Brembo calipers on 15.5-inch rotors in front and four-piston fixed calipers on 12.6-inch rotors in the rear. The 295/35ZR-19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport front tires always stayed under the car in the corners, and there was no trace of the slither and wobble that you might otherwise expect from a car that weighs 3,760 pounds.
2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang In Red Interior Gear Shift
When you step up the Shelby GT350R, you’ll find that the dynamics are the same, only the package has been toughened up enough so the driver will run out of breath long before the car will. The lighter, 3,655-pound GT350R still faithfully follows its front tires in Laguna’s long-duration corners just like the GT350, only the wider and grippier 305/35ZR-19 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup front tires hang on even longer. The GT350’s new, cast-aluminum front steering knuckles deliver a different offset to give you more control of so much contact patch (a little more steering castor comes as part of the geometry as well), yet you can steer with your fingertips instead of your biceps.
2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang In Red Rear Side View Parked
What really makes the difference in the GT350R is its suspension setup, which like everything else about this car has been created as a system, not just a collection of pieces. The R-type’s lightweight carbon-fiber wheels represent half the unsprung weight of the GT350’s conventional cast-aluminum wheels, which helps the R-type’s standard MagneRide dampers react even quicker to ride inputs. Meanwhile, heavy-duty front springs provide a little more support when you hit the brakes hard, keeping the car from standing on its nose just as you want to steer into a corner. The overall effect isn’t so much supple as it is steady, almost as if you were riding on an active suspension instead of conventional springs and dampers. The Shelby GT350R just flat gets after it on a track, and our spies tell us that it cuts quicker lap times at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca than a Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.

The Mustang reinvented

The 2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang is still a Mustang, and we shouldn't make light of it. Even as a two-passenger fastback coupe with big tires, you can still drive it to the store and expect 14/21 mpg EPA city/highway. Mustang guys created this car, as we were reminded when two engineers mentioned that they had only recently quite driving their 1980s Fox-body Mustang 5.0s, each with nearly 300,000 miles on the odometer.
The most important part of the whole process might have been the creation of the one-page memo that proposed this new car in the first place. The Ford Motor Company of 10 years ago couldn’t have undertaken such a project even if it wanted to (and it wouldn’t have wanted to). That the 2016 Shelby GT350 exists at all is a kind of miracle.

2016 Ford Figo: Five things that could make it the best hatchback under Rs 5 lakhs

Following the Ford Figo Aspire compact sedan, the Figo hatchback is expected to reach the Indian market as early as October 2015, reports Economic Times. Given that Ford India has not just priced the Figo Aspire right but has also specced it well (both in terms of features as well as engines), we expect the same with the Figo hatchback. And that brings us to five things that could possibly make the upcoming Figo the best hatchback under Rs 5 lakhs.

Engine

Ford Ka Brazil Figo India front
The Ford Figo Aspire comes with three engine options: a 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel, and a 1.5-litre petrol (only available with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox). Unlike the previous (okay, outgoing) Figo petrol which felt a bit powerless, the engine now gets variable valve timing, which should solve performance issues to some extent. The Figo hatchback will benefit a lot from that. In case of the diesels, the 100PS engine in the Aspire diesel makes it one of the most powerful vehicles in the segment.

In terms of competition, most vehicles in the segment use a 1.2-litre petrol engine (Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Brio, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Volkswagen Polo etc.), so it’s going to be quite an interesting scenario. In terms of diesels, Hyundai uses a smaller 1.1-litre unit, while the Marutis use the Fiat-derived 1.3-litre engine.
The final power outputs will have a lot to tell, but if the engines are carried over with identical figures, then Figo will sit on top of the comparison charts. And with a ride and handling package that could match the potential of the engine, the new Figo might just become the best driver-oriented car in the segment.
Presence of the third 1.5-litre, automatic gearbox equipped petrol engine isn’t sure yet. But if it makes it to the Figo, then expect it to be a riot! The dual-clutch gearbox doesn’t take too long to shift, and does a better job than most other automatic units in the market. Performance oriented automatic this side of Rs 7 lakhs, anyone?

Ride and handling

Ford Ka
The outgoing Figo was always an enthusiast’s car. The direct steering, well balanced suspension, and low seating position worked wonders for it. The new Figo hatchback is going to be slightly different in that aspect, as the early reports of the Figo Aspire suggest. The Aspire gets an electric power assisted steering instead of a hydraulic unit, and the suspension handles bad roads well, but at the same time it doesn’t feel disconnected, and thus the driving pleasure is very much intact. The same can be expected from the Figo hatchback, too.
India has a variety of road conditions, so you can’t really stay happy either a stiffly sprung suspension or a soft one. There has to be a balance, and the Figo Aspire seems to have got it right. The 174mm ground clearance might is similar to what others offer in the segment. We can expect the same from the Figo hatchback too, while given it won’t have a boot to carry around, it could end up being slightly nimbler as well.

Features

Ford Ka Sync
The Figo Aspire gets two airbags standard across all variants except the top one, which gets a total of six (frontal, side, and curtain), while ABS is also standard from the second variant onwards. If Ford India manages to do something similar with the Figo hatchback, not only will it make Figo one of the safest cars on sale (and make it our list of the same!) but will also ensure that the customers don’t have to empty their wallets to enjoy features that must be standard.
Other worthwhile features on the Figo Aspire include the SYNC infotainment system (available on select variants only); MyKey – a key that lets the owner set the vehicle’s speed limit and even set a maximum volume for the infotainment system; and even automatic climate control. Expect them to be offered on the Figo hatchback as well.

Pricing:

Ford Ka Concept Upcoming Figo rear
Ford got the pricing right with the Figo Aspire – it starts at Rs 4.9 lakh for the base petrol and Rs 5.9 lakh for the base diesel. The company will certainly have to consider that the Figo has the potential to pull in customers from both B-segment (think Grand i10, Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Ritz etc.) and also from the slightly bigger and premium offerings like the Swift, the Polo, etc.
Currently the Figo starts at around Rs 4.14 lakh, ex-showrom, while others hover in the Rs 4-5 lakh bracket. The new Figo, at about the same price will obviously have the price advantage, and will be able to justify the price with a heavy-ish feature list (hopefully!).

Styling and interior

Ford Ka Concept Upcoming Figo front
It’s a very subjective thing, the styling, but the Figo is going to look the freshest of the lot. View it head on, and the wide grille stands outs. The overall proportions weren’t wrong in case of the outgoing Figo, but the new one looks more rounded, and in  line with the current design philosophy.
Same goes for the interior, which unlike the outgoing Figo, resembles what customers get in the Fiesta and the EcoSport. The fit and finish is a step ahead of the predecessor, while the presence of light-coloured interior also comes down to personal preferences.

GT-R

2016 Nissan GT R 45th Anniversary Gold Edition front three quarter in motion 03Nissan’s own Ben Bowlby has confirmed to us that the next GT-R will use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 paired with a hybrid system. That powertrain, essentially a streetable version of the one in the GT-R LM Nismo F1 car, is expected to make well north of 600 hp. The Infiniti Q80 Inspiration concept combined a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 with a hybrid system for 550 hp, paired with all-wheel drive via a nine-speed automatic transmission. No doubt this engine is a big part of Infiniti’s plans for a new engine family with aluminum and direct-injection.

The next Nissan GT-R isn’t expected before 2018, so definitely don’t look for anything from Infiniti until then.

Ford Figo Aspire Sedan India Launch on August 12; Bookings Open

Ford Figo Aspire Sedan India launch on 12th August. Actor Farhan Akhtar Is Brand Ambassador

Exterior Design
2014 Ford Figo Concept Front Right Quarter
The design of the Ford Figo concept derives heavily from the Ford Ka hatchback concept showcased in Brazil in 2013. It’s no surprise as this is essentially the Ford Ka with a boot. The good thing about this design though is that everything jells nicely, and the car looks seamless. We can go ahead and confidently call it smart too, Ford’s ‘Kinetic’ design theory really works it’s magic on this car. Some design elements on the car include:
  • Trapezoidal grille, a signature element of Ford’s Kinetic design theme
  • Swept back headlamps
  • 8-spoke alloy wheels
  • Indicator integrated ORVM covers
  • Large doors with a huge glass-area
  • Shark-fin radio antenna
  • Boomerang shaped rear-taillight design
  • Silver diffuser on the rear bumper

Interior Design
Ford did not showcase the interiors of the car, as the car at the event did not have any interiors. But going by recent spy pics, much like the Ford EcoSport, the Ford Figo Aspire’s cabin gets a pretty well designed dashboard and a whole host of features. Ford has also said that they had designed a new media-dock system that would help sync any device to the cars built-in multimedia system.
Features
Ford has not revealed any features that would be available on the production variant of the Ford Figo concept. Though expect the car to be loaded to the gills with features if the Ford EcoSport is taken into consideration.
The variant-wise features list is as follows:
  • Ambiente– Rear fog lamps, fabric upholstery, 14 inch steel wheels, 12 V power outlet, follow-me home headlamps, manual aircon, front power windows, dual airbags, remote locking, tilt adjust steering.
  • Trend (In addition to the above)- Front fog lamps, fabric door inserts, rear centre armrest, steering mounted controls, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, rear power windows, my Ford Dock, stereo with AUX, USB and Bluetooth.
  • Titanium (In addition to the above)- Rear defogger, climate control, driver seat height adjust, ESP, traction control, hill start assist, seatbelt reminder and height adjust, 14 inch alloy wheels.
  • Titanium+ (In addition to the above)- leather seats, CD/MP3 player, 4.2 inch multifunction display, Ford SYNC with voice command, Ford MYKEY, side and curtain airbags
Performance and handling
Ford has been known for creating some of the best driver’s cars in India. And the Ford Figo sedan should not disappoint in that segment either. The car will get three engine options- 1.2 litre petrol, 1.5 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel. The 1.5 litre petrol unit will also get a 6-speed dual clutch automatic, a first in its class.

2015 Ford Endeavour India Launch By End-2015

The 2015 Ford Endeavour India launch is likely to happen towards the end of this year

With plans to bring the New Ford Endeavour into India by the end of 2015, Ford has opted to assemble the new Ford Endeavour locally to price it aggressively in the market. To increase the localisation percentage, Ford might consider producing the parts for the new Ford Endeavour here in India. Ultimately, the new Ford Endeavour could be exported from India as well. This news goes in sync with the earlier report about Ford India assuming greater responsibility and emerging as an export hub.2015-Ford-Endeavour-10
The styling at the front resembles the concept showcased earlier with an upright three-part grille, small sweptback headlamps, a stylish front bumper under-guard flows onto the bumper to merge into the fog lamps. Move to the side and the design theme from the concept continues, with the raked front windshield, a slightly sloping roofline, up-swept window-line and a slight body sculpting near the bottom fo the doors. You can also see that the SUV will feature subtle roof-rails which sit flush onto the roof. At the rear, the Endeavour gets a new tail-gate mounted spoiler, which is different from the one on the concept car. Rest of the design though is similar to the concept, with the large split tail-lamps, the chunky chrome garnish and the bootlid-mounted number plate holder.
2015 Ford F-150 Interior Front Cabin
The 2015 Ford Endeavour for India is expected to borrow interior design cues from Ford’s latest pick-up trucks like the Ford F-150
Inside, the Endeavour will borrow design cues from its pickup truck brethren sold mainly in the US such as the Ford F-150. Ford will offer the newer SYNC2 multimedia system in the SUV, it will allow for better smart-phone integration along with better voice-activated controls etc.
Our information on the 2015 Ford Endeavour suggests that the company has set very high standards for the the SUV to match. New spy shots of the SUV have been released, it seems that Ford was benchmarking the SUv against the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which is a very formidable off-roader. The top-end variants of the new Endeavour will receive an AWD system which would feature traction modes seen in similar systems like the Land Rover Terrain Response system. Called the Terrain Management System, it provides for traction settings for different road conditions from the normal paved road to ice-covered roads.
Ford is expected to offer the new Endeavour with improved versions of the engines sold in the current model, the 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre diesels. The transmission options will be upgraded, the automatic variant will get a new faster and intelligent system. The dynamics of the SUV will be totally changed, the old leaf-spring rear suspension on the current model will be replaced by coil-springs for better ride and handling.

Updated on 29th March 2014
Ford has showcased the 2015 Ford Everest Concept a.k.a the 2014 Ford Endeavour Concept at the Bangkok Auto Show, Thailand and set the wheels rolling of rumours suggesting that it will be launched in India soon too. We are less optimistic of the launch happening anytime soon, as Ford is concentrating on launching the new Fiesta sedan, the new Figo hatchback  and Figo sedan in India first. Ford may surprise us all by making a statement later, we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
Updated on 21st January 2014
It seems like the 2015 Ford Endeavour may not debut in India on 3rd February 2014 after all. The sources who claimed to have had the information has removed their story all together and sources from Ford also deny that any such event will take place in the said timeline. We have not lost all hope though, it may be possible that Ford has postponed the debut because it wants to get things right before making any more new launches in the country. Things like starting production at their new production facility at Sanand in Gujarat, and reducing the delays that the company is facing with deliveries of the Ford EcoSport will take precedence over the launch of a new vehicle. this does not rule out the company showcasing new prodcuts though, expect one or two concepts at the Ford stall at the 2014 Auto Expo.
Updated on 20th January 2014
Ford Endeavour (Everest in some parts of the world) has been a car that has always catered to a segment which has favoured the muscular and classic SUVs. Many might say that it has an old school box type design but any true blue SUV fan would favour it over any luxury SUV any day. Ford is also to launch the next generation Endeavour globally and the public debut of the same will take place right before the 2014 Auto Expo in India. The 2015 Ford Endeavour will break cover on the 3rd February 2014 in India. Indians have always had an affinity for the big SUV, so its Ford’s way of thanking them for their affection.

The 2015 Ford Endeavour will be based on the Ford Ranger and will have a body on ladder frame as its underpinnings. So what that does is that it makes the SUV pretty sturdy and makes it ready to take on all the off-roading activities that you may have in mind. Like its predecessor, the Endeavour is going to be the car that you can easily take anywhere you would want to, be it on road or off road.
The 2015 Endeavour ditches the boxy design for a more muscular one. The rectangular grille makes way for a hexagonal unit and the  the headlamps as well as the tail cluster opt for a contemporary angular design instead. What will be under the hood is still a mystery but Ford is expected to launch it with a choice of 2 turbo-diesel motors for India with one of them may be a a 2.2-litre unit and other one a 3-litre unit.

These will come mated to a choice of a manual and automatic transmissiosn but details of the same are unknown, yet. It will feature a 4WD shift-on-the-fly  mechanism for off-roading as well. The SUV will have the seating capacity for 7 adults and will lock horns with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the soon to be launched next generation Hyundai Santa Fe which will break cover for Indian market alongside it.

2016 Ford GT with 600 horses to debut at Detroit Show

 Ford GT
For the uninitiated, here’s probably the most interesting bit from the motoring history. It’s about the Ford GT, the beautiful machine we’re about to discuss here in this piece. The Ford GT drew its inspiration from and was built in commemoration of the Ford GT40 – possibly the greatest car Ford ever built.
The GT40 was created to take the dominant Ferrai cars at the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans, which had been winning the championship from 1960 to 1965. It all started in 1963, when Henry Ford showed his interest in buying Ferrari, and came pretty close to sealing the deal. Everything went as desired, until Enzo Ferrari realized that selling the company to the American carmaker will stop him from racing at the Indianapolis 500 competition in a car with the legendary Pracing Horse logo. Why? Because Henry Ford’s company was running its own contenders in the race, powered by their own engines, and they didn’t want any competition from the Maranello based carmaker. So Enzo Ferrari, who was known to be an intimidating, temperamental man himself, cancelled the deal.
Ford GT40
Not to be put down by anyone, Henry Ford ordered his racing division to prepare a Ferrari killer for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. And so his engineers did, in the form of thee GT40. After failing in its first two attempts (1964 and 1965) the Ford GT40 won the prestigious race four times in a row, humiliating Ferrari in the process.

The GT was produced in the years 2005 and 2006, with a little over 4000 specimens made and sold. Now, Ford is planning to introduce a successor to the celebrated nameplate. The new Ford GT, will likely make its debut at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show, and of course, it will be more powerful than its predecessor.
The new GT is expected to carry the design template of the GT40, but probably with a bit more twist this time than seen on the earlier GT. The new supercar will have a limited production run of 1,200 units.
Powering the new GT would be a turbocharged V6 EcoBoost engine with more than 600 horses. No more details are available as of now. One this, however, is for sure – the new GT upon its launch will create great buzz and tug at the hearts of its fans, including yours truly.
