OnePlus 3 confirmed to launch by June
In an exclusive interview with CNET,
OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei, disclosed that the company’s next
flagship device will launch “at the end of the second quarter.”
Last year’s flagship model, the OnePlus 2, was released in July,
and featured an updated design from the company’s first offering. This
time around, Pei says he hopes to “captivate” users with a “new design”
on the OnePlus 3, which will likely deviate from its predecessor
similarly to the OnePlus X which was launched in the fall of last year. Beyond that, no details were disclosed on what to expect from the device.
Another detail that was left out was the process in which customers could purchase the device. Thus far, OnePlus has mainly stuck to an invite-only system which made it fairly difficult for users to actually get their hands on the device. The OnePlus X only adopted this system for a few months before transitioning to more conventional means of purchase. Pei only commented that customers were to expect a “better buying process,” although it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve heard that.
It’s worth noting that OnePlus plans to switch to more traditional
forms of marketing. “The US will be very important for us this year,” he
stated in the interview. It would suggest that the company wants to see
the OnePlus 3 in the hands of more consumers, and the buying process
may not be as much of a hassle as their previous flagships.
The rumor mill has been pretty dry surrounding any details on the OnePus 3 and its specifications, so sound off below and let us know what features you’d love to see in the upcoming model.
