Jaguar F-Pace Unveiled, Stays True to C-X17 Concept September 4, 2015
Jaguar is going all-in to build up as much hype as
it can for the upcoming F-Pace crossover, which it hopes will generate
some much-needed sales increases for the brand. Ahead of the new
crossover’s Frankfurt debut, we now have our first undisguised look at
the Jaguar F-Pace.
Kudos to designer Ian Callum, who has delivered on his promise that the production Jaguar F-Pace would adhere closely to the popular and attractive C-X17 concept. As expected, the Jaguar F-Pace isn’t quite as extroverted as the C-X17, but the same squat stance gives it
The F-Pace is all smooth, flowing lines, setting
the crossover it apart from sibling brand Land Rover’s more boxy
offerings. Consistent with previously spied testing prototypes,
the F-Pace bears familiar brand design cues that have trickled down
from the halo F-Type, such as the extended wrap-around taillights and
fender badges aft of the front wheels. The front grille is a dead ringer
for the new XF and XE sedans.
From what we’ve been told, the Jaguar F-Pace’s lightweight aluminum construction
gives it a low center of gravity that make it “a performance crossover
designed for those who love driving,” according to a company release.
The F-Pace will benefit from sister brand Land Rover’s all-wheel-drive
technology, but there is a clear commitment to on-road driving rather
than off-road rock crawling. Engine options in the U.S. should include a
2.0-liter gasoline turbo-four for the base version, and a 3.0-liter
gasoline supercharged V-6 for the S model, both with an eight-speed
automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel drive.
Stay tuned for more Jaguar F-Pace photos and details as Frankfurt draws nearer.
