Infiniti Preparing a Performance Sedan

Now, there’s renewed hope that a four-door Infiniti sports car will see the light of day, after all. A new report from Australia’s Motoring claims a source inside Nissan has knowledge of a high-powered, performance-oriented luxury sedan with a GT-R powertrain. And apparently, it’s not too far-flung from the idea behind the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept.Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Front Three Quarter View In Motion 2
“Our research has shown that there is a move in high performance car manufacturing towards four-door sedans,” says the unnamed Nissan source. With such a car, Infiniti would be poised to take on wild sedans from Mercedes-AMG, BMW M, Audi RS, Cadillac V-Series and Porsche.

Nissan’s own Ben Bowlby has confirmed to us that the next GT-R will use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 paired with a hybrid system. That powertrain, essentially a streetable version of the one in the GT-R LM Nismo F1 car, is expected to make well north of 600 hp. The Infiniti Q80 Inspiration concept combined a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 with a hybrid system for 550 hp, paired with all-wheel drive via a nine-speed automatic transmission. No doubt this engine is a big part of Infiniti’s plans for a new engine family with aluminum and direct-injection.
