Opel Corsa (2015)
Opel Corsa
The Opel Corsa is well established as a perennial bestseller: through four model generations spanning 32 years, 12.4 million Corsas have been sold. Together with the Astra, it is Opel's most popular model, accounting for over a quarter of the company's sales every year. Available in three and five-door body formats, the Corsa is currently number four in the small car segment in Western Europe. In Germany and the United Kingdom, it is number two and still keeping the competition at bay. When the new fifth-generation Corsa rolls off the assembly lines in Eisenach and Zaragoza at the end of this year, a star will be born to continue the model's success in the small car segment. It has everything it takes to do so. The chic, fifth generation Corsa offers a fresh look and a fresh driving experience with a new chassis and optimized steering, combining the art of German engineering with emotional design, superb digital connectivity and a great price/performance ratio. New generation gasoline and profoundly reworked diesel turbo engines ensure a new level of comfort, top performance and low fuel consumption. The fifth-generation Corsa can already be ordered in Germany at an attractive entry-level price of just 11,980 euros (3-door, 1.2 gasoline engine; 750 euros more for the family-friendly five-door model - RRP incl. VAT in Germany).
"The Opel Corsa has always been widely praised, particularly for its appealing looks and its efficient use of space within compact dimensions," says Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, CEO Opel Group. "I am confident the new fifth generation, with its new level of comfort, its modern driver assistance and infotainment systems, will continue the model's exemplary success. I promise that the driving experience of the new Corsa will surprise everyone."
Youthful and fresh, the interior and exterior design of fifth generation Corsa features a new sense of sophistication, clarity and workmanship. It is set to continue the 32-year spanning success story of the Corsa nameplate in an extremely competitive segment.
As previously, the new Corsa will be available in distinct three and five-door body styles - the coupé-like silhouette of the three-door looks sportier, while the five-door's design expresses its virtues of more functional family car. The new Corsa's exterior is in compliance with Opel's design philosophy: flowing, sculptural artistry shapes are combined with precisely designed details, ensuring that it is immediately recognized as a member of the latest generation Opel vehicles. Inside, the Corsa continues to impress with customary extensive space for five people but also with new, sophisticated design and premium materials.
"The new Corsa interprets our design philosophy perfectly. The smoothly sculpted body taught dynamic lines, including our signature 'blade' body side and the sophisticated surfacing make the Corsa a sporty-looking small car with an elegant design. That also goes for the interior with its high-quality materials, excellent craftsmanship and leading edge infotainment. It targets customers who do not invest a fortune in a car but want to see premium characteristics in it," said Mark Adams, Vice President Design for Opel.
Brand-typical exterior design with sporty and elegant elements
From the front, the Corsa is immediately recognizable as a member of the current Opel family. The bold face is characterized by the 'wing' shaped headlights incorporating Opel's signature 'wing' LED daytime running lights and the low sporty trapezoidal grille, with its dynamic chrome bar supporting the Opel emblem. The front fog lights are embedded in two low, outward laying but graphically connected air inlets with chrome trim and give the Corsa an even wider appearance.
The side view of the three and five-door bodies is very different due to the individual window graphics. In the three-door model, the upper window line drops to the rear much like for a coupé thus emphasizing its sporty appearance. In the five-door variant, the belt line extends upwards to create a dynamic connection with the roof spoiler. The sculptured body sides feature Opel's typical dynamic 'blade' body side signature.
The rear view of the fifth generation Corsa is also completely new. At the rear end, the wide horizontal split tail lights help to visually widen the car and flow through to the rear shoulders, giving it an even better stance. The well-known 'wing' graphic design shines when the rear lights are switched on. The lower bumper is visually connected to the body side 'blade' through design lines that flow into the license plate pocket.
A large palette of exterior colors have been created for new generation Corsa - from more conservative silvers up to vibrant red and greens up to two sporty and audacious yellows.
Interior with high-class materials and workmanship
The new generation Corsa mainly surprises with its all new interior design.
The new interior showcases the next level of Opel`s Design Philosophy `Sculptural Artistry meets German Precision'.
Sculptural harmonious surfaces and graceful flowing lines are key elements in the design of the new Corsa Interior.
The sculptural wing-shaped IP top-pad combines a subtle blend of taut surfaces and flowing transitions bordered by elegant decors. The decors span the full length of the instrument panel emphasizing the width and spaciousness of the interior.
Premium, high quality materials - like those used for the soft IP top-pad, or the decor elements dressed in rich satin chrome, are all worthy of vehicles from much higher segments. Each material used in the New Corsa is carefully chosen to support the premium character of the interior, clearly reflecting a level of quality and craftsmanship born of German Engineering.
The class leading, state of the art IntelliLink infotainment system is fully customizable, and designed with extreme ease of use in mind. The system is surrounded by a tasteful high gloss décor, with supporting switches accented in satin chrome. It offers excellent connectivity with smartphones and electronic devices. Several functionalities are available via apps, such as the navigation app BringGo, as well as Stitcher and TuneIn providing internet radio. IntelliLink is compatible with Apple and Android. USB and Bluetooth connections are of course available, and Siri Eyes Free can also be used.
The 3-dimensionally sculpted steering wheel with the small and efficiently packaged airbag cover is designed to not only look great, but with ergonomics in the forefront. The switches are integrated into the overall design with extreme precision and framed by a tasteful, satin chrome bezel.
The round, chrono-styled instruments and satin chrome framed switches convey the aura of sporty precision.
Five configurations, Essentia, Enjoy, Color Edition, Sport and Cosmo, along with various decors give the customer an individual and flexible choice. In addition to sophisticated 3D, embossed fabrics, the Uplevel and Design Edition trims are accented by either a galvanized or painted decor-blade, each designed to give the interior a distinctively modern and tailored character. The successful Color Edition Campaign of the New Corsa takes full advantage of this creative flexibility by expressively combining five exterior colors into the interior.
The two-tone accent color, which matches the seats, wraps from the lower IP into the door trims, visually widening the cabin, and creating an ambience more typical of upmarket cars.
The new Corsa also introduces an industry first seat fabric printing technology. This unique technology enables an unprecedented level of trim flexibility, as well as endless creative opportunities. This cutting edge technology, clearly reflects the overall design innovation, use of state of the art technologies, and premium execution which are cornerstones of the New Corsa interior. Once again and even at this level of detail, Opel shows it is an innovative pioneer.
The high quality of design execution, materials and workmanship can be found throughout the entire interior. In the dynamic, deeply sculpted front door panels, pleasantly soft materials are combined with useful solutions such as a compartment for 1.5-liter bottles. The center console also includes convenient details such as three cup holders. In front of the gear lever, there is an innovative, flexible cup holder, which can optionally also hold an ashtray.
All in all the new Corsa boasts a new level of quality, material and workmanship that is usually expected in cars from upper categories. Thereby, Opel substantiates its quality standard of also offering small cars with a premium touch at affordable prices.
Full of Innovation: New Opel Corsa with Advanced Assistant Systems
Whisper quiet, more comfortable and precise than ever, safeguarded by innovative assistance systems and perfectly connected - these are key qualities that distinguish the new Corsa. Opel's fifth generation small car raises the bar in comfort and safety thanks to a host of driver assistance systems, many of which are unrivalled in its class. They include automatic, hands-free Park Assist II and state-of-the-art bi-xenon headlamps with cornering light and LED daytime running lights. The new Corsa also offers Opel's award-winning IntelliLink infotainment system for the first time. It provides the seamless integration of Apple iOS and Android smartphone functionalities inside the car, ensuring Corsa drivers stay safely connected when they are on the road.
Five trim levels are available for the new Corsa: Essentia, Color Edition, Enjoy, Sport and Cosmo. No matter which is chosen, they share a common attribute: a ride quality and standard of refinement that is better than ever before. This new level of sophistication is due to numerous optimizations. For example, the windshield wipers are less exposed to airflow, doors and door handles benefit from improved sealing to ensure less wind noise, and the overall level of noise and vibrations has been reduced.
Thermal comfort too has been substantially optimized. As in the previous generation, the steering wheel and the front seats can be heated, but the introduction of the ThermaTec windshield that is heated too to rapidly provide perfect visibility on humid days is major news. At the touch of a button, occupants can feel pleasantly warm within one minute, even when it's freezing outside. Unlike conventional air conditioning systems, the new Corsa's electronic climate control utilizes a patented control strategy which maintains constant comfort through the seasons, without the need to change settings. Using performance data that includes more than 200 characteristics, a microprocessor computes the on-board climate and adjusts it to match the desired values. The result is an air conditioning system that is more stable and harmoniously compensates for temperature fluctuations inside the car, resulting in a better feeling of comfort especially on long journeys. An activated-carbon cabin air filter keeps pollen and unpleasant smells at bay.
Seats featuring elaborate workmanship and optimal contours with contemporary upholstery fabrics give the new Corsa cabin a final premium flourish. Like in the previous generation, which always scored very well in the segment, there is also plenty of space inside both the new three and five-door Corsa, even though they are only 4.02 meters long. In the 3-door version, Easy Entry front seats enable simple and contortion-free cabin access. The luggage compartment is equipped with a double floor either enabling flush loading or offering an extended volume with a deeper bottom. The 60/40 split folding rear bench seat turns the elegant interior into a spacious storage compartment. With the rear seat backrests folded forward, the Corsa offers a load capacity of 1,120 liters. An optional panorama sunroof offers extended luminosity and raises the sensation of spaciousness, while pleasant ambient lighting and a high-class interior lend the cabin a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The new Corsa generation also offers Opel's innovative practical FlexFix bicycle carrier as an option. It is neatly integrated into the rear bumper so it is always available and ready to carry up to two bikes.
