Overview
KTM Sportmotorcycle AG is a motorcycle, moped and bicycle manufacturing company of Austria which was
founded in 1934 by
an engineer named Hans Trunkenpolz. It was a metal working shop when
first started and was called Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. It
has its headquarters in Mattighofen, Austria and by 1954, started
manufacturing motorcycles.
Over the years, it has acquired a unique place among the companies
which produces off-road motorcycles and in the last decade, also
established themselves as reliable street motorcycle manufacturers.
Recently, the Austrian manufacturer unveiled another masterpiece, KTM
1290 Super Duke R on October 1, 2013. The worldwide launch of this
stylish naked bike will be expected to happen in 2013 EICMA event which
starts from
November 5, 2013. It was first showcased as
a prototype model at 2012 EICMA in Italy where it was hugely praised
and caught everyone's attention. There are also the speculations of its
entrance in Indian market on its worldwide launch in November as a part
of KTM's joint venture with Bajaj Autos in India.
Design and Style
KTM 1290 Super Duke R has a sharp headlight with daytime running lights and a cool exhaust design with
overall stunning looks
and an incredible power to weight ratio. It has a powder-coated
Chromium-Molybdenum-Steel Trellis frame while the carbon fiber is used
for other parts and the machine is completed by a single-sided aluminium
swing arm with 50mm rear axle. It has Bosch 9ME braking system combined
with ABS and Traction Control and thus also guarantees the safety
aspect and will be a light-weight bike. It also has nice low-pressure
and die-cast wheels with tailor-made Dunlop Sportsmart tires. It has WP
suspension system which includes 48mm diameter Upside-Down forks with
gas pressure reservoir at front and Monoshock Absorbers at rear. It has a
large wheelbase of 1482mm or 1494mm for a stable ride and a good ground
clearance of 140mm for a bump-free ride. The seat height is 835mm while
the
fuel tank capacity is 18 litres. The weight of this spectacular bike without fuel is 189 kgs.
Engine and Gearbox
KTM 1290 Super Duke R has a 1301cc,
2-cylinders, 4-stroke,
Liquid-cooled, Hydraulically-operated PASC Slipper Clutch, Pressure
Lubrication with 3 Eaton pumps, Double-ignition, Keihin EMS with DBW,
75degrees V-twin RC8R engine with a maximum power of 180 bhp at 8870 rpm
and a
maximum torque of 144 Nm, out of which 100 Nm
comes at 2500 rpm! The engine of this bike is mated to a six-speed
manual transmission. The engine has a bore and stroke of 108mm and 71mm
respectively. It reaches 0-200 kmph mark in just 7.2 seconds with low
fuel consumption.
Instrument Console
KTM 1290 Super Duke R has
different modes to suit
different personalities which includes Rain (smooth and limited power),
Street (sporty, effective and super-swift) and Plus (ABS and even
deactivation modes for ABS and Traction Control). The bike has 320mm
diameter front disk brakes with dual Brembo four pistons and radially
bolted calliper at front while Brembo fixed mounted two-piston brake
callipers at rear. It also has a perfectly illuminating instrument
console with a digital speedometer, fuel gauge and
2 trip meters,
an analogue tachometer, low fuel, oil and battery indicators and a high
oil temperature indicator. It has a self-start, a pass light and even a
stand alarm. . It has a large service interval of 15,000 kms which
makes the rider at ease.

KTM 1290 Super Duke R is a great combination of style, comfort,

expected ex-showroom, Delhi price of this magnificent naked bike is INR 15 lakhs which may vary in different states.
